Doocey Group – Infrastructure Partner for Sandwell Aquatics Centre

Doocey Group are very proud to have played a big part in the infrastructure of this amazing project as Sandwell Council and partners celebrate completion of legacy phase of the new Sandwell Aquatics Centre.

After successfully winning the bid against other framework contractors, Doocey Group started work on the project by in June 2019, ready for the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

The project included excavating, installing and reinstating 3125m of 11kv Single / double power circuit from Causeway Green Road to Londonderry Road boundary for the new Aquatic Centre, as well as St. Johns Road and Birchfield PSS. Traffic management was carried out by Doocey Traffic Management who liaised with local highway authorities throughout the scheme. Read more here

Sandwell Aquatics Centre opened its doors to the public on Monday 24 July having completed its planned transformation into a state-of-the-art community leisure centre for Sandwell and the wider region.

Sandwell Aquatics Centre was the only brand-new venue for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, the Smethwick-based centre will offer a huge range of sport and exercise facilities for everyone.

The final phase of transforming the venue from Games to legacy mode was completed July 23 and the finished building was handed over to Sandwell Council in readiness for opening to the public Monday 24 July 2023. Read more here
