Student Accommodation Development Electrical Infrastructure – Leylands Road, Leeds

Project Overview

Following the successful completion of our Spinners Yard scheme in 2024, we were appointed by our client to deliver the electrical infrastructure for a new student accommodation development at The Fabric Works, Leeds.

The project scope included the installation of a 1MVA packaged substation, incorporating a 1600A Air Circuit Breaker (ACB) and 11kV cabling, to provide a robust and futureproof power supply to the development.

Key Challenges

Congested footpath installation: the high-voltage cabling route passed through a heavily congested public footpath. This required detailed planning, coordination with multiple utility providers, and precision excavation to safely navigate existing underground services.

Restricted access: limited site access necessitated careful logistical planning for the delivery and positioning of the packaged substation.

Tight programme deadlines: works were delivered to align precisely with the overall construction schedule, requiring efficient sequencing and close collaboration with the main contractor and client team.

Outcome

Despite the logistical and technical challenges, the project was completed on time, to specification, and within budget. The installation provides the client with a reliable and compliant electrical infrastructure solution, supporting the successful delivery of the new student accommodation scheme.
