3005m Cable Pull on the A46 Evesham

First Phase – Commencement February 2019

The scheme involved the laying of 11kv Circuits on behalf of Western Power Distribution, initially on Millennium Way, Vale Park for the upgrade of the existing 11kv Networks and for additional power required for local businesses within the Evesham area.

The first phase saw liaison with Worcestershire Highways for the raising of Road Opening Permits and Doocey Traffic Management to finalise the 11kv Network Jointing with our Client Western Power Distribution.

Second Phase – Completed July 2019

This section of the works commenced in April 2019 and required just under 2700m of single 11kv circuit and intermediate jointing along the main A46 Trunk Road between Tywford Roundabout and Badsey Lane, Evesham, completing with 11kv Network Jointing onto the existing 11kv local Network.

This phase required meticulous pre-planning negotiations with Highways England from the previous year 2018 for the submissions of Road Space Bookings, getting agreements for Doocey Traffic Management and meetings with Highways England / Western Power Distribution alike to co-ordinate various workforce skills.

There were 4 bridges to cross all of which created individual challenges and took time to prepare specific RAMS for approvals prior to getting agreement to cross. Given the location this section was always going to create its own delivery difficulties and liaisons with all of the Emergency Services was paramount, as was keeping local road users informed.

The route was segregated using Herras Fencing and Trial Holes were carried out throughout the route to confirm potential spare duct usage. Doocey Traffic Management was set up along the A46 consisting of Narrow Lanes Northbound / Southbound with 20mph speed restrictions. All of which to protect the workforce and road users alike. In addition, night working to cross the River Avon Bridge was also a challenge in itself, but pre-planning averted any issues.

Along this route saw excavations across Wales & West Utilities I.P. Gas Mains at 4 locations along the A46 and again this required meticulous pre-planning with WWU both off site and on site to negotiate a route through.

To achieve this section of works, Doocey Group utilised the use of a ‘Trencher’ to accelerate the excavation process to avoid unnecessary disruption to the local traffic as possible. Of which resulted in a great success and the project was delivered ahead of contract programme.

A project of this nature requires long hours, a range of specialist plant and skills to ensure that we progressed safely, effectively and efficiently, to which this was achieved.
